This site has a mission. That mission is to develop and promote substantial improvements to Video on Demand; a.k.a. VoD.

Savings due to these improvements are many
Billions of Dollars over the next decade.

This site proposes a practice the author terms Hybrid VoD

Hybrid VoD leverages Multicast opportunities in harmony with conventional VoD operation. This retains the essential operational immediacy of VoD while gaining the manifest operational efficiencies of Multicast. The goal is to merge two deficient technologies, in order to create a superior one.

Substantial improvements in Bandwidth Utilization & Server Efficiency for Media Content providers are possible. As the adoption of Video on Demand matures and expands, penalties are increasingly placed on Network Operators for bandwidth. Server costs for Content Providers also continues to rise, as dedicated server sessions are required to support each individual user’s content stream.

A multiple thousand-fold improvement in Bandwidth Utilization and Server Efficiency can be achieved with the methodologies promoted here.

Properly executed, there are significant Capital and Operating cost savings to be achieved for both Network Operators & Content Providers.

These cost saving are specifically targeted at the “fat tail” of the Content Provider’s offerings, as this is the predominant driver of Server and Network Bandwidth expense. There will also be significant viewing experience advantages to end users.

This will be a team effort. It will involve contributions from multiple stake holders.
I hope that you are one of them.
